Building a Log House

The log walls of the building are assembled on the Palkehituse OÜ premises during the manufacture; this enables you to inspect the house shell before it is packed for delivery. If you wish, we will e-mail you photos about the progress of the manufacture and the different stages of production. Numbered logs will be packaged in the order of assembly to ensure a fast and effective assembly on site.

Other timber elements that you have ordered in your kit (the necessary beams, weatherboards, trims, material for a terrace, etc.) will be supplied in a sufficient quantity according to the construction drawings; they will be cut to size on site while assembling the house.

There are several different options for assembling your log house kit. If you order the assembly to be done by Palkehituse OÜ, it would include the assembly and installation of all the materials in the kit as well as all the necessary woodwork joints. In order to start the assembly, the customer should already have a prepared foundation; the area around the foundation should be levelled and an access for heavy vehicles is also required.

If you already have a reliable construction firm in mind, you can naturally use their services to assemble the house. You can also assemble your log house on your own by including your friends and relatives. The necessary design documentation is provided by Palkehituse OÜ.

If you wish to assemble your house yourself, we strongly recommend including at least one expert from Palkehituse OÜ for the first two or three weeks to instruct you and to help assemble the log walls and the roof structure; if necessary, our expert would also help you to install all the doors, windows and other constructional elements that are characteristic to log houses. Including an experienced builder in the process would help you to avoid possible flaws which would cause problems in the later stages of the construction and when exploiting the building in the future.

The cost of the construction depends on the complexity of the building, the amount of work and the conditions on the construction site. In most cases, the assembly will constitute about 20−30% of the cost of the logs. Ordering an expert’s services comes at an extra cost; his fee is calculated on the basis of an hourly rate. A Palkehituse OÜ expert can also be included to supervise specific constructional processes such as assembling the log walls or building the roof construction.
